If you decide to go with an agent, they will take care of most of the advertising but it is still worth reading this section so you have some background knowledge and can ask them questions about where they will be advertising your property.

Where to advertise?

The internet has made advertising and renting a holiday rental so much easier. There are many popular websites where you can advertise your property and get really good results. Some of the sites offer a full service in that they will collect the money for you when a booking is made whereas others will email you the enquiry and it is up to you to collect the tariff if a booking is made. The below table shows the costs involved and the number of properties listed on 4 of the bigger holiday rental websites in Australia.

It is also worth speaking to your local tourism body or information centre to see what services they offer. Quite often they will also have a booking facility at the information centre as well as a website that advertises local holiday rentals.
